I’m glad you asked… Coaching is a Biblical model for helping people grow. All throughout history we see that God has designed human life for adventure. Coaching is a mindset that comes alongside people or groups and helps them get from where they are (here) to wherever God is asking them to go (there).
There are actually two kinds of coaching. One is what you think of when you picture a sports team. That type of coaching is one where the leader has a plan in mind that he guides the team through and can be used for churches, organizations or leadership teams. This is not the kind of coaching that is storming the business and church world today! The kind of coaching that John Maxwell, Lance Wallnau, Tony Stolzfus and Bridges Coaching is all about is innately different. This new kind of coaching is one that builds off the idea that God is working in people, churches, organizations and teams leading them to the next levels He has for them. The plan is given to the individuals or team and is not brought in from an outside leader. A good coach will practice active listening and ask the powerful questions that will come alongside the journey and help make action steps that will provide the pathway from here to there.
Bridges Coaching leans on two tools unique to itself. One is the Always Circle*.
The Always Circle
In this model we see that life is a journey – unless you are stuck! The Always Circle represents the pathway that God has designed for us with the gift of free will. Picture a circle with three arrows going around. The first statement below starts on the left followed by an arrow to the top right where we find the second statement and then flows on to the bottom where the third statement is found. My apologies for not being able to include the graphic in this post.
In this life There is always going to be stuff. It can be easy to think that life is supposed to be easy and just come together. Our lives are not meant to be a “happily ever after” fairy tale but an adventure to be lived.
So, when we face the stuff of life we have an opportunity to grow because God always offers a plan! Whether we acknowledge Him or not, there is always a way out or through. God wants to engage with us in the middle of whatever we are facing. He never promised us “stuff free” living, but He did promise He would never leave us, that nothing could separate us from His love and that He would use it all for good in our lives.
But here’s the kicker, We always make choices… Sometimes our choice is to blame Him for the stuff, turn our back on Him for not intervening, or even worse to become apathetic and give up on Him or life in general.
As we take time to assess what stuff we are dealing with, learn to hear God’s voice and make right choices we can move forward in the adventure of life God has uniquely designed for us!
Tune in next week for the other tool unique to Bridges Coaching!
If coaching has made a difference for you, or coach training has changed your approach I’d love a shout out this week. Thanks for investing in the kingdom in the way that you have and please leave a comment that I can quote you on!
