The Coaching ROAD helps people move forward and last week I had to take a little dose of my own medicine!
That is never a good thing.
When I told my husband and he started to coach me. I welcomed the assist.
Last week we started down the Coaching ROAD.
Recognition – figuring out what it is that you really want to focus on. These foci can be put in two groups – dreams and detriments. Dealing with detriments is recognizing an obstacle and getting to the core of a recurring issue by taking time to name it. Making a dream a focus is as simple as moving it out of the dream cloud and moving toward setting it up as a goal.
Ownership – This is the focus of our chat today. More on this, and the conclusion of my story, to come.
Action Steps – Next week we’ll get into SMART goals and actual movement forward.
Dedication – Outcomes and retention are forever affected by this simple step.
So there I was, unable to really name what was stealing my joy. I just felt a little lifeless and unmotivated.
I had a choice to make.
Giving in to the feeling was one option and just letting the evening slip into a silencing of my soul, OR I could decide I didn’t want to go there. I chose the later.
Owning my evening meant making a decision about how we spent our time, what we talked about and how we were going to interact. If didn’t want it to be all about my blah self that night, I needed to own my thoughts and emotions.
It can be all too easy to give in to legit issues and not own your life.
The question isn’t really “Why is this happening?” The question is “What now?”
If you want to break the mental rut that has owned your thoughts, emotions or actions you will need to practice ownership of your life. You have been given every spiritual gift. You can move forward. You can let go. You can forgive. You can change.
Helping your people move forward will mean modeling this yourself and challenging them to do the same.
- Where in your life do you need to exercise some ownership?
- What do you need to do as a response to the question “What now?”
