This week in coach training we talked about some of the pros and cons of Coaching.
The conversation definitely got a little interesting… (Disclaimer: just in case you really don’t get it – I’m writing tongue in check.)
Please do not consider coaching if any of these reasons hits home for you!
#10 We’ve never done it that way before. If you are unfamiliar with coaching and you don’t really want to learn or grow in your leadership influence you should just stick to whatever you were doing before.
#9 It gives too much control to the other person. What if they really don’t know what they are doing? I probably ought to step in and get things in order. They are not ready to handle the responsibility of making decisions for themselves.
#8 It takes too much time. Transformation takes a lot longer than behavior modification and I just want to see results more quickly.
#7 It always seems to go too deep. Things don’t need to be that complicated. They just need to stop doing certain things and start doing other things.
#6 I really do know what is best for them. There’s a program for everything and they just need to get onboard.
#5 It’s just a passing fad. First it was discipleship groups, then inner healing and now this. I’m just not seeing it.
#4 The other person might not feel better after we talk. I really want everyone to just feel good and when I have to ask them challenging questions that go deeper than surface issues, or when I won’t tell them what to do, they don’t always walk away thrilled.
#3 I prefer talking to listening and I think that’s what they really want! I mean really… it takes awhile to get in to talk to me and when they get here I don’t think they really want to talk about themselves, they want to hear my wisdom.
#2 It’s messy. Kind of like #10, it’s not what I am used to so I just prefer to stick with what I know.
#1 I don’t really get it. Coach training seems like sideways energy and I have a lot on my plate already.
Coaching isn’t for the weak. It takes a lot of faith. It believes in people – often before they even believe in themselves (kind of like Jesus with the disciples…).
It isn’t easy, but you CAN do it!
And honestly – it’s Biblical so if you really want to be effective…
Coaching draws from another what God has put in them! It celebrates the uniqueness of each individual’s relationship with God and forwards confidence in learning to hear His voice for all!
Coach Training is the game changer that can take your leadership impact to next levels!
