Ever had a repeating conversation that was going nowhere? You know the kind where someone is talking to you and they seem to be going in circles. Or what about the kind where you say what you say and they say what they say and you both passionately say the same things you have said for years, but nothing changes?
Trying to get somewhere without knowing where you want to go can be really frustrating. So, what do you want? Where do you really want to go? What would resolve the situation?
Often people focus on the circumstances or symptoms in their lives without much thought for what God could be doing in the midst of where they are. In this life there is always going to be stuff, but God always offers a plan. And we always have choices, so if we can stop the circular thinking, or redirect the focus of the conversation, it IS possible to have a different outcome.
I saw this sign outside a Hot Topics store quite a while ago and it has been haunting me ever since. I think there is a message from God here.
If we cannot speak what we want it’s kind of like trying to use a GPS without having a destination.
The power of simply choosing a focus can keep people from spinning their wheels with same ol’, same ol’.
Next time you find yourself in a situation where the focus is on the situation rather than the outcome try some of these questions:
- What would a Win look like in this situation?
- Where do you want to go?
- What needs to be addressed?
- What would release look like? Feel like?
- Where should the focus be?
