I was arrested with a God moment at a Hot Topic Store! As I was walking through the mall, I saw this sign outside the store my heart was stirred knowing that He wanted me to verbalize what I wanted! I have been chewing on this thought ever since. It’s harder than you think to simmer it down and speak it out. A thousand questions have crossed my mind: What if what I want isn’t what He wants? What if I am just being selfish? What if I don’t see the big picture?, on and on the questions go. To be honest, I’m still chewing on my answer and I saw the sign last Christmas!
God puts desires in each of our hearts. We all have passions that are part of our unique design. Some of us are interested in people groups like children or the elderly, some of us are moved by situations like putting an end to abortion or poverty. We may be compelled to get involved with a certain group or community or we may have a desire to leave an impact in politics or the arts. Whatever it is that interests us God put it there. He knit us together in our mother’s womb and has a destiny for us that He designed. But He is waiting for us to move. He has invited us to participate with Him in changing our world in whatever ways He designed us.
Phil 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Maybe we “have not because we ask not”. I think that deep inside us where His Spirit communes with ours we know very well what we want and likely it is exactly what He wants us to want. He desires us to go deeper with Him, to reach out for the adventure He set in our hearts and speak up!
What do you want? Speak up!
