Do you have someone you can go to in a pinch?
Are you that someone for others?
I’m in the final stages of completing a self-coaching workbook designed for individuals, couples or teams to use to gain traction and move forward wherever and however they feel God is guiding them.
That’s really the heart of coaching right there in a nutshell – moving forward wherever and however God is guiding!
So yesterday I decided to email Tony to ask for advice about some publishing questions I have. (Should I self publish, try for a big name, e-publish… the choices are a little daunting.)
And he emails me back and says I should just call him! Who does that?!
This guy has literally “written the book” on coaching. I use it for a text in all my courses. Not just this book either. His famous “Coaching Questions” is like the encyclopedia of coaching scenarios and chock full of powerful questions for each.
I was so blessed he took time for me.
He’s kind of like Jesus that way. I want to be like that too.
But it didn’t stop there. After he saved me countless hours of research and gave me the gift of learning from mistakes he made instead of having to learn things the hard way myself, he asked me an amazing question. (If you haven’t figure it out by now he’s kind of the King of Questions!)
He said, “Would you like me to write a forward for your book?”
As if talking me through publishing in person on the phone wasn’t enough… he offered to write a forward for my book!
But that wasn’t the amazing question he asked.
After I fumbled over my grateful response he asked me a much more powerful question. He asked, “Why did I have to ask you? Why didn’t you just ask me yourself?”
It got me thinking, which is exactly what a good powerful question will do, where am I like that elsewhere in my life? (I learned to ask that from you as well Tony!) And my answer hurt a little. I’m like that with God.
I realized I wait around for God to ask me if I want something, when He is waiting for me to speak up and ask Him specifically for what I want!
Talk about an “Ah Ha” moment – thanks for messing me up again Tony! I am so grateful for all you do for the kingdom.
- I’m grateful for your books and the repeated insights there.
- I’m grateful for the many people you have helped through coaching and the ripple effect that has in the kingdom.
- I’m grateful for your new venture Leadership Metaformation and the heart transformation that happens there!
- I’m grateful for your friendship, coaching and advice.
- I am especially grateful for the forward you are going to write for my book!
- BUT more than all these I am grateful for the recognition that I need to go ahead and ask God for what I want and not just wait for Him to speak to me!
