I never wanted to be a nurse. You know how lots of young girls go through that phase where they want to be a nurse or maybe a teacher? Yeah, that never happened for me. Now as I look back I see how God was guiding me toward His will for me all along. Nursing was never seeded in me as a possible goal.
Sometimes we think to really connect with God’s will for us – to really know our “calling” – we have to have some kind of super spiritual experience probably connected with an altar call experience, some extreme kind of fasting or enormous amounts of Bible reading or something. And while I thoroughly support fasting and Bible reading I don’t think moving forward in God’s will for us needs to be complicated or mysterious.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” This passage could be read a couple different ways. One way is that if I want a red Ferrari I need to put in some God time and then I can get what I really want. That is pretty blunt, but sometimes we read it that way. Now I could be wrong here, but if we are delighting ourselves in the Lord first then wouldn’t our heart be toward Him and not toward selfish gains? I believe that when we put Him first He “gives us the desires of your heart” – meaning He plants dreams in you that He wants to develop with you!
What do you dream about? I bet it is different than what I dream about, and that is a good thing! Maybe the will of God for your life is seeded in the dreams He has planted in your heart and soul, maybe His will is not hidden at all, maybe your seeds just need tending!
God is all about building bridges to what could be! What dream seeds do you need to consider tending and turn into goals?
